Retatrutide is an injectable drug intended to help adults with obesity lose weight. Although the drug has not yet received FDA approval, Eli Lilly has announced plans to submit an application for approval of Retatrutide—a next-generation anti-obesity medication—following its success in two additional late-stage clinical trials.

Why are people so enthusiastic about Retatrutide?

Retatrutide, also known as the 'triple G' drug, targets GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon, rather than just one or two of these hormones as is the case with existing treatments. This appears to have a more potent effect on appetite and satiety than other treatments. Following successful late-stage clinical trials—which showed weight loss of up to 20% and improvements in health markers—Retatrutide is expected to become a key drug for weight loss and obesity treatment. The drug resulted in significant weight loss and improvements in a key blood sugar metric among adults with obesity and either type 2 diabetes or established cardiovascular disease.

For whom is Retatrutide suitable for?

Where to buy Retatrutide

Retatrutide is expected to be indicated for adult patients with an initial BMI (Body Mass Index) of ≥ 30 (obesity) or between 27 and 30 (overweight) who have at least one weight-related comorbidity, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, or sleep apnea. The final indication will be determined once the drug is approved.

How does Retatrutide work?

While tirzepatide targets three hormone receptors, retatrutide is a drug that acts on three hormone receptors: those for the GLP-1 hormone, glucagon, and the GIP hormone. These play a role in regulating blood sugar levels, contribute to insulin release, influence hunger and satiety, and stimulate fat burning—thereby affecting energy balance.

Is Retatrutide safe?

Retatrutide has not yet been approved by the FDA or the Ministry of Health. The drug is still in the research phase and therefore cannot yet receive approval, although the clinical studies look promising.

The difference between Retatrutide and Tirzepatide

The action of tirzepatide is twofold and that of retatrutide is threefold.

Retatrutide dosages

The dosages of retatrutide used in studies are 1 mg, 2 mg, 4 mg, 8 mg, and 12 mg, administered via a weekly injections. Which dosages will be available in the future depends on further research and approval by the FDA and the Ministry of Health.
